The short answer
A digital salesperson is an AI agent that does a salesperson's actual job on digital channels. It answers new enquiries in seconds, quotes real prices from your catalogue, asks qualifying questions, follows up until the buyer decides, and books the appointment or closes the sale, at any hour of any day. It is not a chatbot, which walks people through scripted menus. Nor is it a CRM, a filing cabinet for what your team already did. The digital salesperson does the selling itself, on WhatsApp, web chat, wherever buyers message you. The role is already real. Our agent 41 Closer runs a Singapore industrial supplier's WhatsApp line, and 64.1% of the chats it handles end in a sale, numbers we publish on the product page. This page defines the role, its limits, and the honest cost against a human hire.

What does a digital salesperson actually do?
Read any inside-sales job description and it comes down to six verbs. Respond, qualify, quote, follow up, close, hand off. A digital salesperson does the same six, in the channels where your buyers already type, and it does them at 2am with the same patience it has at 2pm.
Here is the version with receipts, pulled from our own product page. Our agent 41 Closer runs the WhatsApp line for a Singapore industrial supplier. One chat we publish there starts at 2:14am, a buyer asking for 200 units by Friday. The agent confirms stock, quotes $2,400 for the lot, and sends a payment link. Paid one minute later. Nobody at the company was awake, and nobody needed to be.
A single chat is an anecdote. The measured number is the point. 64.1% of the chats that agent handles end in a sale, quoting live from a catalogue of 42,000 products, with over $300,000 a month running through the system. Our team steps in on the tricky conversations. The agent runs the rest end to end.
Source: live client numbers published on our 41 Closer page, a Singapore industrial supplier quoting from 42,000 products, read July 2026. One client in one industry, so treat it as what a well-fed agent can reach, not an industry average. Handled means chats the agent ran end to end. The tricky ones go to humans and sit outside this count.
Notice where the role starts and ends. Answering FAQs is step one of six, and plenty of tools stop there. A digital salesperson's job ends where a human salesperson's does, at a payment link, a booked appointment, or a clean handoff with the full chat history attached. If you want the machinery underneath, how an agent reads a message, decides, and acts, we wrote a plain-English walkthrough in how AI agents work.
Digital salesperson vs chatbot vs CRM: the difference
People use these three words as if they were neighbours. They are different species.
A chatbot is a script. Menus, buttons, canned answers to questions someone predicted in advance. Fine for opening hours. The moment a buyer asks something with money attached, can you do 200 units by Friday and what is your best price, the script runs out and the bot offers a menu. The lead cools while a human catches up.
A CRM is a filing cabinet. It stores what your salespeople did. Who called whom, which deal sits in which stage. Useful, and completely passive. No pipeline ever moved because the database was tidy.
A digital salesperson sits in the seat. It reads the enquiry, works out what the buyer wants, pulls the actual price, pushes toward a close or a booking, then writes the record into the CRM like any rep would. A chatbot recites and a CRM remembers. Neither one ever asks for the order.
One test settles any product demo. Give it a hard buying question with a quantity and a deadline. If you get a menu back, it is a chatbot wearing a new name. We went deeper on that line, with the tells to look for, in AI agent vs chatbot.
What can't a digital salesperson do?
Three things stay human, and any vendor who claims otherwise is selling you a disappointment.
Complex negotiation. Multi-round deals, procurement committees, contract terms that shift against volume. A digital salesperson works from your catalogue and your rules. It will not invent a discount structure in round three, and you do not want it to.
Relationship selling. The account that buys because they have trusted you for six years is not a chat thread. Whales get lunches, not payment links. In our deployments the agent recognises those conversations and hands them to a person with the full history attached.
Then there is anything off-catalogue. Ask our agent for a product outside the client's 42,000-item list and it says so and escalates. That is deliberate. An agent that improvises prices is a liability with a typing indicator.
In practice the split is simple. The digital salesperson takes the volume, the speed, and the 3am traffic. Your humans keep the judgment calls and the whales. None of our deployments replaced a person.
What does one cost vs a human hire?
Start with the human number. Public salary guides put a junior salesperson in Singapore somewhere around S$2,800 to S$4,000 a month in base pay, before employer CPF and any commission. In Australia the same role runs very roughly A$55,000 to A$75,000 a year plus super. Bands move by industry and city, so treat both as ballparks.
The digital number we can state precisely, because we publish it. 41 Closer, the managed digital salesperson we build and run, starts at S$690 a month plus a one-time build fee from S$4,800. The entry plan handles up to 350 chats a month and goes live in 48 hours.
Resist the salary-vs-subscription comparison, though, because a digital salesperson is not a replacement and the math misleads in both directions. Price it as coverage instead. A full-time human covers about 44 hours a week. Enquiries arrive across all 168.
Bars drawn to scale, 44 vs 168 hours. The 44 is a standard full-time week, rounded up for the salesperson who checks messages at dinner. Evidence that buyers use the other 124: the 2:14am close published on our 41 Closer page.
That 124-hour gap is where the 2:14am order earlier on this page came from. It is what the S$690 buys. The hours no hire wants and no roster covers, at a fifth or less of a junior salary. Meanwhile your best human closer stops answering do-you-deliver-on-Saturday and spends those hours on the deals that need a person. We priced the whole category for our home market on the AI sales agent Singapore page.
How do you know if you need one?
Run the leak test. Three questions. Pull timestamps from last week before you answer, because memory flatters everyone.
One. How long does a new enquiry wait for a first reply? Open your last ten enquiries and check. If the honest answer is hours, you are paying to generate leads and then making them queue. Speed is most of what closing is, which is the entire argument of our speed to lead piece.
Two. What happens after 6pm and on weekends? Count last month's after-hours messages. Each one found you while your competitors were also closed, which means the first business to answer takes the money. Right now that is nobody.
Three. How many quotes got a follow-up? Quoted-and-forgotten is the quietest leak in most pipelines. If nobody chases a quote after two days, you are funding your competitors' discount conversations.
Healthy answers to all three mean you do not need a digital salesperson yet, and we would tell you so. One wince or more means the role already exists in your business. Nobody is filling it yet.
Frequently asked questions
Is a digital salesperson the same as a chatbot?
No. A chatbot follows a script, menus, buttons, and canned answers to questions someone predicted in advance. A digital salesperson is an AI agent that carries a real sales conversation. It reads what the buyer actually wrote, quotes a live price from your catalogue, asks qualifying questions, handles objections, follows up, and closes or books. The practical test is one hard buying question. Ask for 200 units by Friday at your best price. A chatbot offers you a menu. A digital salesperson answers with a number and asks for the order. On our live deployment, 64.1% of the chats the agent handles end in a sale. No scripted menu gets near that.
How much does a digital salesperson cost?
The number we can stand behind is our own. 41 Closer, the managed digital salesperson we build and run, starts at S$690 a month plus a one-time build fee from S$4,800, with the entry plan handling up to 350 chats a month. For market context, a junior human salesperson runs roughly S$2,800 to S$4,000 a month in base pay in Singapore, or very roughly A$55,000 to A$75,000 a year plus super in Australia, both approximate ranges from public salary guides. The fair comparison is coverage. The agent works all 168 hours in a week, so price it against the enquiries you lose outside office hours, not against a person you were never going to hire for the night shift.
Can a digital salesperson really close sales?
Yes, with a catalogue and guardrails, and we publish the numbers. On one live client, a Singapore industrial supplier, 64.1% of the chats our agent handles end in a sale, quoting from 42,000 products with over $300,000 a month running through the system. One published chat shows an enquiry at 2:14am, a $2,400 quote, and payment a minute later. Two caveats keep that honest. It is one client in one industry, and it counts the chats the agent handles end to end, because tricky conversations get handed to humans. Closing works where prices are known. Complex negotiation still belongs to people.
What businesses use digital salespeople?
Businesses whose sales already happen inside a message thread. Distributors and wholesalers quoting stock and prices, the live deployment we publish runs a 42,000-product industrial catalogue. Retailers holding items and taking deposits. Clinics, salons, and home services booking appointments with a deposit link. Property agents qualifying buyers before a viewing. The common shape is high enquiry volume, known prices, and buyers who message at all hours. Our deployments run mostly on WhatsApp across Singapore and Australia because that is where those buyers already are. If your sales close through long dinners and procurement committees, the role changes. The digital salesperson qualifies and books for your humans instead of closing on its own.
